Janna: duplicate discounted spells while preserving spell mana

Janna · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

A rare-relic spell engine that rewards playing discounted cards and keeps a replacement champion available.

Build

Needs 3★Champion level 30

Overview

Janna benefits from playing cards below their original cost. Rare spell-mana and duplication builds work on her, and there are several premium alternatives. This build uses a rare-only survival trio and makes cost reduction the engine, without needing another champion's signature relic.

The build

Chemtech Duplicator

When you play a spell, if you have 6+ mana gems, copy it with the same targets.

At six mana gems, discounted spells produce a second cast with the same targets.

Archangel's Staff

Round Start: Refill your spell mana.

A fresh spell-mana refill each round pays for the discounted draw and removal plan.

Guardian Angel

+0|+2 and Deathless.
Start adventures with +2 Revives.

Deathless and adventure revives give the fragile champion a safety margin while the engine reaches its threshold.

How to play

Use the starting deck’s discount and Updraft tools to put cheaper cards into later draws. Deploy Janna when you can keep her on board, then use Howling Gale and inexpensive draw to control the board while playing reduced-cost cards.

The star power rewards those reduced-cost plays with further discounts. Once you reach six mana gems, spell duplication improves removal and draw output. Preserve enough mana to answer the enemy attack instead of converting every discount into another unprotected unit.

Drafting and alternatives

Many players prefer Echoing Spirit for cheap champion-spell draw. The Grand General's Counterplan is an accessible recurring-copy alternative, but its generated copies haven't been sitting in the deck to receive Updraft reductions. This is a meaningful difference between the two options.

At six stars, some players try Echoing Spirit, Chemtech Duplicator and Frozen Tomb. It can establish multiple champions and more spell copies, but the opening is slower. That version needs its own investment and early blockers, and plays on a different timing from this three-star survival build.

Players disagree about how much Overwhelm you need after the sixth-star enemy Updraft effect. Before you have that upgrade, a large attacker can still be blocked. Spell discounts and draw are useful, but reserve control for the turn when the enemy gets the attack token.

Star-power checkpoint

What's Updraft? II

When you play a cost reduced card, reduce the cost of the top 2 cards of your deck by 1.
