Shen: Barrier support and a protected blocker

Shen · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

Put Barrier on supported allies, compound their stats and use the sixth-star blocking strike as a damage payoff.

Build

Needs 6★Champion level 30

Overview

Shen turns repeated Barrier into stats, random keywords and mana. For six-star blocking play, the go-to combination is Kinkou Tradition / Sentinel's Plate / Black Shield. His signature relic works while he's in play; it isn't a starting Power.

The build

Kinkou Tradition

Elusive makes attacks safer. While the carrier is in play, each ally receiving Barrier gains a random keyword and refills one mana. This is regular mana, not just spell mana; Barrier gained before the champion is present do not receive this benefit.

Sentinel's Plate

Barrier helps the first damage event, and surviving damage grants +3|+3 and a random keyword. Its value is especially useful when the sixth star makes blocking part of the win condition.

Black Shield

Every allied summon gains Spellshield to protect the Barrier board from hostile spells and Skill. It absorbs one applicable effect, so sequence further protection after it is consumed.

How to play

Develop Shen and an ally that can receive Barrier. At three stars supported allies gain health, with a larger stat grant when they have Barrier, while Barrier grants also add power to already shielded allies. His signature improves the Barrier plan and the durability relic helps keep the engine available.

At six stars a Barrier ally striking while blocking also strikes the enemy Nexus. Choose a survivable block and preserve the Barrier until that combat rather than spending it on an irrelevant trade. Team Spellshield protects the setup from one hostile effect on each unit.

Drafting and alternatives

Keep cheap non-Moral Support spells, which create that card through the two-star power. At six stars, use the Barrier spell before Shadow Dash so the second spell can replace the first. You need actual Barrier when blocking strikes resolve to earn the Nexus strike.

Some players prefer earlier mana; this build goes with the Plate and Shield trio. Without the signature, try Death's Foil and Perfect Hex Core. Budget choices include Archangel's Staff, The Grand General's Counterplan and Chemtech Duplicator for spells and mana. Draft removal for threats your fair combat tricks cannot answer.

Star-power checkpoint

Twilight Assault

Round Start: Create a Shadow Dash in hand if you don't have one. When an ally with Barrier strikes while blocking, it strikes the enemy Nexus.
