Gwen: turn a wide opening into a protected Hallowed attack

Gwen · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

Develop buffed allies early, discount Gwen with disposable bodies and use Challenger to remove key blockers.

Build

Needs 6★Champion level 30

Overview

At six stars, Disciple of Shadows gives Gwen a fast opening; on a budget, attack order and damage relics matter most. This build uses the wider-board Laurent Bladerack and Stacked Deck pair. Its larger starting units can survive the Play damage, so you don't get the guaranteed Hallowed deaths or instant level-up of the smaller-body version.

The build

Laurent Bladerack

Allies have Challenger.

Challenger lets your attackers pull the enemy units that must be removed before a finish. Check your attackers can survive the combat.

Disciple of Shadows

I cost 1 less for each ally in play.
Play: Deal 3 to all other allies.

Bodies on your board reduce the champion cost. Its play damage can also kill disposable allies; account for that damage before sacrificing units you need to retain.

Stacked Deck

+200 Starting Gold.
Power: Allies have +1|+1 for every 12 cards in your deck past 18 at game start.

The board gains stats from the number of cards in your starting deck. Drafting more useful cards strengthens later fights; cards added after game start are not automatically included in that count.

How to play

The sixth star supplies four Ghastly Band bodies and an attack token. They reduce Gwen's cost through Disciple of Shadows. Before playing her, inspect their current Health: starting-deck stat bonuses can keep some alive, changing the Hallowed and level-up payoff of the Play damage.

When using the second-star Hallowed bonus, place another attacker first and Gwen second so her own attack effect receives the intended Hallowed Attack Power. Challenger lets surviving allies pull dangerous blockers away or remove key enemies. Choose blocks each attacker can survive instead of treating Challenger as automatic safety.

Her attack's Drain helps stabilize the Nexus while the remaining board deals combat damage. If the entry already leveled Gwen, a level-up Rally relic would activate before this attack and can overlap with the sixth-star starting token.

Drafting and alternatives

Cheap allies and useful purchases improve the starting-deck board. A stronger army makes the opening more durable, but changes how many units die to the discount relic. Avoid assuming every upgraded starting body is still sacrifice fuel.

At six stars, the alternative is Disciple of Shadows with Galeforce and Luden's Tempest. Scout gives another attack and the damage relic strengthens the repeated Drain instances. A failed finish leaves her shuffled away at Round End, so protection or keeping her on board can be better against larger opponents.

At lower stars, run Crownguard Inheritance and a damage relic, adding Overwhelm or protection as needed. It distinguishes global Big Guns from the champion-carried damage aura: an extra champion copy does not duplicate a global relic Power. Death's Foil is a protection alternative when a blocker would kill her during an attack.
