Heimerdinger: spell spending into an upgraded Tech army

Heimerdinger · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

Spend mana on spells to upgrade Tech allies, then use the champion’s turrets as the board payoff.

Build

Needs 6★Champion level 30

Overview

Heimerdinger wants early survival, Tech upgrades and space on board for turrets. They disagree on late duplication versus immediate protection at six stars. This build runs Defense Spending, Disciple of Shadows and Arcane Comet: establish the champion earlier, make him benefit from Tech upgrades and retain a large-target answer.

The build

Defense Spending

The Nexus has Tough, reducing incoming damage instances, and Heimerdinger is Tech so the upgrades affect him as well as turrets. This helps the champion become a useful body instead of only occupying a board slot.

Disciple of Shadows

Allies in play discount the champion. Playing him damages the other allies, so calculate which blockers survive before using the discount. A cheap entry is not worth losing the board when you cannot replace it.

Arcane Comet

Recurring Falling Comet answers a large enemy and supplies meaningful spell spending for the Tech engine. Fleeting means you must use the copy this round; leave the mana to cast it if it is your answer to the next attack.

How to play

Establish blockers and cast spells that contribute to the six-mana-spent upgrade checkpoints. The champion’s spell-triggered turret generation supplies created Tech units. At six stars a starting Tech body and improved upgrades help the early board, but mana for the champion is still a real constraint.

The discount relic uses allied bodies to bring him down earlier, while his own relic protects the Nexus and the recurring removal relic answers a large enemy. Its generated removal spell also contributes spell spending. Leave room for turrets instead of filling every board slot with disposable followers.

Drafting and alternatives

Keep cheap blockers and useful spells, then preserve room for the turrets generated after spells. At six stars the starting Tech body supplies an early blocker and cost discount. Favor spell effects that solve the current board as well as contributing to the mana-spent checkpoint.

The Beast Within gives the Tech army subtype stats and Overwhelm. Corrupted Star Fragment trades a supported turret for champion stats and frees board space. These are different finishes: one preserves the wide board, the other builds the champion.

Chemtech Duplicator gives a larger spell engine once you reach its mana threshold. A later six-star player instead prioritizes Black Shield against immediate removal, noting that some games finish or exhaust the hand before duplication becomes relevant.

Careful with Secret Technique: ordinary buff spells benefit, but Tech upgrade auras don't count as spell-granted stat buffs just because spell spending triggered them.

Star-power checkpoint

Eureka!!!!

Tech allies in hand and in play start the game with 3 random improved upgrades.
Game Start: Summon a Mk0: Windup Shredder.
