Jayce: six-cost spells and mana refills

Jayce · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

Play expensive spells for the spell engine, refill mana and turn the buffed board into a finish.

Build

Needs 6★Champion level 30

Overview

Jayce runs on expensive spells, banked mana and the level-up refill; players disagree on whether late spell duplication is a must. This build uses Jayce's Hextech Battery, Renewing Power and The Beast Within. These combine a champion payoff, a first-qualifying-spell refund each round and a way for buffed allies to connect.

The build

Jayce's Hextech Battery

The champion's level-up refills six mana and the relic adds stats. Spend mana before leveling where possible so the refill has room to help. This is a distinct trigger from the round's first expensive spell.

Renewing Power

Each round the first played spell costing at least six refills mana equal to its cost. Later qualifying spells that round do not repeat this relic's refund. Its global Power can help before Jayce arrives.

The Beast Within

Overwhelm lets a spell-buffed board finish through blockers. Allies with a subtype also gain the stated stats; not every starting unit has a subtype.

How to play

Keep a qualifying expensive spell and early ways to bank or refill spell mana. Before discounting the spell, check that it still meets the six-cost condition used by the champion, relic and star powers. Develop blockers rather than passing into lethal damage merely to bank mana.

The first qualifying spell can receive the global refund. Use the following mana on another useful spell or the champion, keeping his level-up refill as a separate payoff. Avoid wasting either refill against the mana cap.

After Jayce levels, use his spell duplication and Acceleration Gate to improve the board. At six stars qualifying spell plays also supply the random-enemy damage payoff. Overwhelm provides a combat finish when large blockers survive; neither mana relic promises an unlimited loop.

Drafting and alternatives

Archangel's Staff and The Grand General's Counterplan are good for recurring spell resources. Chemtech Duplicator shines in longer fights that reach its mana threshold, less so in fast clears.

Arcane Comet supplies repeated large-target removal. Duplication isn't wasted: the extra cast can get through Spellshield even though it targets the same enemy. Treat it as one target with another cast, not two independent targets.

Avoid choosing three Epics simply for their rarity. A cheap-champion or mana-relic package changes the opening assumptions; pick the resource needed by the actual expensive-spell sequence.

Star-power checkpoint

Hextech Infusion

After you play a 6+ cost spell, deal 10 to a random enemy or the enemy Nexus if there is none.
