Jhin: Gatebreaker into double Riptide

Jhin · from the PoC community · 2026-10-14

Put Gatebreaker first to activate two Riptide Batteries, grow Jhin through Skill and bank free control spells.

Build

Needs 3★Champion level 30

Overview

The Curator's Gatebreaker followed by two Riptide Battery gives the champion a large entry barrage. Each Skill helps his star powers grow the carrier and generate Captive Audience for follow-up control.

It's a popular combination for him. It acts immediately when you play him, unlike the existing two-champion spell-control guide, which waits for its Landmark and spell-copy engine.

The build

The Curator's Gatebreaker first

The carrier loses one Power and strikes the enemy Nexus on Play. Equip it above both Batteries so the Nexus damage can activate their Plunder effects. If that strike deals no Nexus damage, the opener still needs an independent Plunder trigger.

Two Riptide Battery

Each plays Cannon Barrage a number of times equal to the carrier’s cost when Plunder activates. The Skill advance the spell/Skill count and give the champion stats through the two-star power. Cost reduction helps deployment but can also reduce barrage count; do not promise a fixed number after changing costs.

The duplicate Rare relic is intentional. Level 30 equips all three without any Epic slot upgrades.

How to play

Keep Jhin and cheap defensive Skill units such as Solari Sunhawk or a Nexus ping such as Crackshot Corsair. Hold the board until you can play the champion; avoid spending your entire hand on an attack that leaves no defense.

With Gatebreaker first, play him and let the Skill chain resolve. Check which enemies survive and how many free Captive Audiences actually reached your hand. Use Stun to prevent dangerous attacks or prepare a finishing attack; more generated cards are wasted if your hand is full.

In the past the ordering sometimes failed after a champion copy had turned into a champion spell, and in encounters that add a global Plunder effect. It may or may not still happen. When you need a dependable barrage, damage the Nexus before playing him rather than relying solely on Gatebreaker’s ordering.

Drafting and alternatives

Take useful early defense, protection, spell/Skill damage and champion discounts when speed matters more than barrage count. Luden's Tempest or Big Guns can replace one Battery for stronger individual hits but fewer Skill and generated control spells.

The existing Frozen Tomb and Chemtech Duplicator route offers longer-game control. A direct summon does not trigger Gatebreaker’s Play strike, so adding a summon relic is not equivalent to playing this barrage package from hand.

Star-power checkpoint

Three-star Beauty in Death II makes the generated Captive Audience cost zero after every fourth qualifying Fast spell, Slow spell or Skill. Two-star Setting the Stage grants an ally +1|+1 when it plays a Skill. Six-star Death in 4 Acts adds spell/Skill damage and quadruples damage to Stun enemies, but the entry-barrage engine does not require it.
