Kayn: entry strikes and repeated removal

Kayn · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

Strike on entry, heal after kills and use the recurring champion copy as removal or recovery.

Build

Needs 3★Champion level 25

Overview

Kayn plays around entry strikes and kill-based healing. This rare control build uses Stalker's Blade to help level him, The Grand General's Counterplan for later strike spells, and Banshee's Veil for protection. Players also run faster double-strike and health-based versions.

The build

The Grand General's Counterplan

Round Start: Create a Fleeting copy of me in hand.

The recurring copy gives a champion spell while the champion is alive, or a replacement champion if it is removed. Keep enough mana to use the copy before Fleeting removes it.

Stalker's Blade

When I'm summoned, I strike the weakest enemy.

The entry strike helps remove an enemy immediately. It uses the champion attack, so verify the target can actually be killed rather than assuming the summon clears every threat.

Banshee's Veil

Spellshield

How to play

Develop cheap allies to survive until Kayn is affordable. His entry-strike relic contributes toward the champion’s strike-based level-up and can remove a small threat. After leveling he Recall, so plan the replay and transformation rather than assuming he remains on board.

The three-star power rewards allied kills with stats and full healing. Keep the champion alive with Spellshield and use the recurring copy for his champion spell when he is on board.

Drafting and alternatives

A second Stalker's Blade replaces the recurring spell slot with two immediate entry strikes. Kayn needs two strikes to level; after his level-up Recall, replaying his transformed form provides another entry. Check each strike's actual target and damage rather than assuming this removes the whole board. Caulfield's Warhammer is a discussed way to improve early strike damage.

Watch the timing with Strength of Stone: the initial untransformed entry strikes occur before its Formidable grant, so do not calculate those strikes from his health. The local descriptions do not specify that ordering. Treat the health-based plan as a separate build; players disagree about whether its board benefits are worth giving up the immediate double-strike level-up.

Keep early blockers and equipment so allied kills can start the three-star healing engine. The Berserker's Buckle can reward surviving damage, but it does not itself guarantee the first kill or solve the cost of deploying Kayn.

Star-power checkpoint

Reap Essence II

When an allied unit kills another unit, give that ally +2|+2 and heal it to full.
