Mel: fund repeated spells and build a control finish

Mel · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14

Keep spell mana and champion-spell access flowing so Mel can level and control the board.

Build

Needs 3★Champion level 30

Overview

Mel rewards repeated spells, but having spells isn't enough without the mana to cast them. The common picks are a spell-mana relic, champion-copy access and repeated removal. This is a Control Mage trio; there's no single agreed best setup.

The build

Echoing Spirit

Game Start: Create 7 copies of me in deck. Champion Spells cost 1 less.

Extra champion copies and cheaper champion spells help keep removal available.

Hidden Tome

Power: When you play or level up a champion, refill your spell mana.

Play and level-up mana refills support the repeated-spell engine; read the trigger carefully rather than expecting every summon to refill it.

The Grand General's Counterplan

Round Start: Create a Fleeting copy of me in hand.

The recurring champion copy supplies removal while she is on board and a replacement after she is removed.

How to play

Keep a useful early engine body such as Ballistic Bot and deploy Mel when you can protect her. Use inexpensive spells to advance her level-up and damage plan, preserving Rebuttal for an oversized threat you cannot manage with your current damage.

The recurring champion spell is a control tool, so budget enough mana before committing to it. Level-up refills can enable a larger turn. Do not spam Fleeting copies just because they exist if doing so leaves you unable to answer an attack.

Drafting and alternatives

Archangel's Staff is a repeatable mana alternative, and Frozen Tomb works as insurance. A duplication relic has a delayed six-mana threshold, which one reply warns may be too slow for the hardest opening. Fast-clear builds use different relics from this control loadout.

Mana access and repeatable spells are the central control tools. Archangel's Staff can replace the play/level-up refill when you need mana over several rounds; it does not supply that same immediate refill on champion play. The sixth-star version and repeated entry-burn variants are different investment and sequencing plans.

A spell that plays a damaging Skill is not automatically a damaging spell for Mel's spell-specific scaling. Read both the spell and the produced effect before choosing a damage package. Extra cards without the mana to cast them can still leave you exposed.

Star-power checkpoint

Sacrifice for Progress II

When you kill a unit with a spell, deal 2 to all enemies and the enemy Nexus.
