Varus: duplicated ally buffs and a doubled-stat strike
Varus · from r/LegendsOfRuneterra · 2026-10-14
Target allies with single-target buffs, copy them to the strongest ally and build
Varus into an
Overwhelm attacker.
Build
Overview
Varus plays an ally-targeting spell plan, and
Hymn of Valor is the standard pick. This version adds
Hidden Tome and
Secret Technique for spell mana and stronger buffs. Cheaper refill relics work too; the tradeoff is between a focused buff deck and keeping removal.
The build
Hidden Tome
Power: When you play or level up a champion, refill your spell mana.
The play and level-up refill enables spells on the turn you establish the champion. A summon without the relevant trigger does not automatically supply that refill.
Secret Technique
Power: When an ally gains stats from a spell, it gains twice that many instead.
Buff spells provide a larger stat payoff. The value is in repeatedly casting the ally buffs used by this plan, rather than merely equipping it on a large champion.
Hymn of Valor
When I'm summoned, create a
Redoubled Valor in hand. It costs 3.
The created doubling spell converts accumulated stats into a larger attacker. Reserve spell mana for it before spending the rest of the turn.
How to play
Deploy
Varus when the mana-refill trigger gives access to the generated
Redoubled Valor. The three-star power copies a single-target ally spell to the strongest ally, while the stat-amplifying relic strengthens buff spells. Inspect the actual strongest ally so the copied spell goes to the intended target.
Advance the champion’s ally-target count and attack once he has the level-up and equipment payoff. The damage depends on your current buffs and mana, so a one-turn kill isn't guaranteed.
Drafting and alternatives
Lost Chapter can replace
Hidden Tome with a spell-mana refill when you play
Varus.
Archangel's Staff instead refills on later round starts.
Chemtech Duplicator is a discussed alternative for longer fights, but its six-mana-gem requirement means it contributes nothing to an earlier finish.
Varus players disagree about cutting
Furious Wielder. Removing it can focus the spell-generation pool on
Momentous Choice, while keeping it gives important removal. The level-21
Farsight Alteration upgrade changes when the buff spell enters hand; inspect the generated-versus-drawn card before planning your sequence. Do not automatically cut useful removal against a threatening opening board.
Keep a way to protect the champion:
Banshee's Veil is a discussed long-adventure option. His equipment and buffs can make a large
Overwhelm attack, but a
Stun or removal spell can still stop that one-champion finish.
Star-power checkpoint
When you target an ally with a single-target spell, copy it on your strongest ally.
