Caitlyn: Scarecrow, Rifle and Flute trap engine

Caitlyn · from the PoC community · 2026-10-14

Seed Flashbombs immediately, force trap-bearing cards out of the enemy deck and turn Caitlyn damage into more traps.

Build

Needs 3★Champion level 30

Overview

Fill the enemy deck with two kinds of traps and make them activate sooner. Hextech Rifle seeds the opening cards, Harmless Scarecrow Terrifies when you play cards costing at least three, and Mischiefmaker's Flute turns Caitlyn's damage into Poison Puffcaps.

It's her highest-voted player build. It trades the recurring copies and summon strikes of her existing guide for a trap engine that starts before you draw her. Players who prefer guaranteed champion-spell access sometimes replace Flute: its extra traps arrive only after she starts dealing damage.

The build

Hextech Rifle

Game Start plants six Flashbomb Traps in the top eight enemy cards. Missed traps are replanted in that same window, helping future draws remain dangerous. Its Power works without playing the champion.

Harmless Scarecrow

Playing a card that costs three or more triggers Terrify 1. Those removed cards can activate the traps you seeded rather than waiting for the foe's normal draw. When the enemy deck reaches fifteen cards or fewer, the relic gives allies +2|+2 and Overwhelm, letting your board finish through blockers.

Mischiefmaker's Flute

Spellshield protects Caitlyn from the first eligible enemy spell or Skill. When she deals damage, it plants that many Poison Puffcap traps. Her leveled strike effect can therefore seed another batch after its Nexus damage; the relic does not make every allied unit plant Puffcaps. All three relics are Epic: unlock the third Rare slot at level 30 and upgrade all three slots.

How to play

Keep Sting Officer and other early units so you can block while the first trap-bearing cards are drawn. Your two-star power plants Flashbombs on allied summons and attacks, so developing the board helps the engine even before the champion arrives.

Play a three-mana card when you need a Terrify trigger, checking its actual cost after discounts. A card reduced below three does not qualify merely because its printed cost was higher. Caitlyn herself can supply a trigger when played at her normal cost.

Keep her alive until traps have activated and she can level. Once leveled, choose a safe strike after several traps have triggered that round: the extra Nexus damage plants more Puffcaps, which can feed later trap damage. Attack with the rest of the board when the low-deck Overwhelm bonus is active. Trap placement and targets remain random, so hold removal or a blocker instead of assuming the next card empties the enemy board.

Drafting and alternatives

Favor affordable cards that remain at three mana when you need Terrify, card draw and protection for your champion. Excessive discounts can speed up development while reducing your available Terrify triggers, so weigh the immediate tempo against the trap activation you lose.

A common swap replaces Flute with The Grand General's Counterplan for recurring champion spells, or Hidden Tome for spell mana on playing or leveling the champion. Her other guide uses Echoing Spirit and Stalker's Blade to emphasize champion copies and immediate strikes instead. Choose recurring spells if waiting for Flute's damage payoff costs too much time.

Star-power checkpoint

Caught In My Trap II triples trap damage at three stars, including damage from Poison Puffcaps. It does not triple the number of traps for the champion's level condition or leveled damage count. At two stars, On the Case plants Flashbombs when allies are summoned or attack. Six stars add another payoff but are not required for this trio's basic trap cycle.
