Leona: repeat Daybreak spells behind targeted Barriers

Leona · from community builds · 2026-10-18

Generate a champion spell each round, duplicate it at six mana gems, and protect key allies with free targeted upgrades.

At a glance

Needs 6★Champion level 30

Overview

Keep Leona and a useful Daybreak target alive, then repeat Morning Light to grow your board and Stun enemies. Perfect Hex Core supplies a free targeted upgrade every round, which also activates the Barrier from Phalanx.

This six-star control build invests its relic slots in recurring spells, duplication and protection. It trades the Formidable build's health-based damage and entry draw for a sustained spell engine. You still need enough early defense to reach the champion and the duplicator's mana threshold.

The build

Chemtech Duplicator

Played spells are copied with the same targets once you have six mana gems. This threshold counts mana gems, not stored spell mana, and spending mana during the round doesn't remove gems. Before that point, the relic supplies no duplication.

The Grand General's Counterplan

Keep the champion on board at Round Start to generate a Fleeting champion copy. While she remains in play, that card becomes the champion spell, giving you another Morning Light each round. Leave hand space for this and the other generated cards.

Perfect Hex Core

The generated Hex Core Upgrade can target any ally under this relic's rules. Choose the unit that needs protection or a useful keyword. With Phalanx unlocked, targeting it also gives it Barrier for that round. The relic's Power works before the champion reaches play, which helps protect an early blocker.

Establishing the engine

Mulligan for a playable Daybreak curve, the champion, and enough defense for the matchup. Play a Daybreak card first in the round when possible. Solari Sunhawk is a useful early Stun and a valuable later target for repeated Daybreak activations.

Develop Leona when you can keep her alive through the next Round Start. Her level-up supplies a free Morning Light through the two-star power, while the recurring relic copy supports later rounds. Don't assume the recurring copy arrives on her first entry.

Once you have six mana gems, cast the champion spell on an ally with the Daybreak effect you want to repeat. Targeting Solari Sunhawk supplies Stun, and Aspect of the Sun adds another activation whenever an ally's Daybreak activates. The champion's leveled effect adds further control. Inspect the resolved Stun rather than assuming each spell clears every enemy regardless of Spellshield or new summons.

Protect, then attack

Use the free targeted upgrade to protect a key blocker or the champion with Barrier. Barrier prevents the next instance of damage that round; it does not stop every removal spell. Save enough mana for the champion spell instead of spending the whole round developing units.

Rahvun, Daylight's Spear lets later card plays activate Daybreak even after the first card of the round. Keep him when the extra activations are useful, but this build doesn't draw him automatically. An explicit spell activation of Daybreak can still work without him.

After the Stun resolve, attack with the enlarged board. Enemies summoned afterward can still block, so time your last control spell around the actual attack. Zenith Blade provides Overwhelm when a remaining blocker prevents enough Nexus damage.

Drafting and substitutions

Prioritize mana, early defense and affordable Daybreak allies. You already generate multiple cards each round, so avoid adding more expensive spells than you can cast. Use Fleeting spells while they are useful and leave space for the next Round Start.

Replace Perfect Hex Core with Archangel's Staff for spell mana if you lack the signature relic. That is an all-Rare setup, but it loses the free targeted upgrade and its early Barrier access. If finding Rahvun, Daylight's Spear matters more than repeatable protection, Found Fortune offers the entry-draw alternative; competing eligible cards can change what it draws.

At lower stars the recurring spell and six-mana duplication still function. Without the Barrier power or the sixth-star repeat activation, however, you lose the corresponding protection or Daybreak multiplication. Adjust the defensive plan rather than expecting the full build's control.
